Departure of the winner of the "Spitzberg 2012" Millet Expedition Project

Yann Couillard, happy winner of first Millet Expedition Project session 2012, took a flight yesterday for Spitzberg. He is going to go conoeing 500kms around the North Pole. He will reach, at the end of his trip, the 80th parralel.

Key dates :

May 2nd – Departure of the Kayak fret

Mai 31st – Flight from Charles de Gaulle - Paris - France

June, 1st to 4th – Check of the permissions and rifles, get provisions of fresh supplies that have to be completed in Longyearbyen

June, 4th – Go aboard the kayak and departure from Longyearbyen

June, 4th to 24th – Going up from North-West Coast of the Spitzberg to the North

June, 24th to 27th – Going on board a ship in the North

June, 25th to 28th – Stop to the scientific village of Ny-Alesund to meet some scientists from Grenoble (France)

June, 26th to 29th – Back to Longyearbyen

July, 2nd – Flight back to France

Goal : Yann would like to explore by kayak 500 km on the NW coast of the island of Spitzberg and cross the 80th parallel. Observe the collapse of the polar bear and analyze the deterioration of their habitat.
